Initially, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Jesse Usher had been cast as the lead in the sequel to Roland Emmerich’s sequel to 1996 disaster film Independence Day, and it was wondered if this affected Liam Hemsworth chances of being in the film, as he was the only other actor tied to the production.
Since then, Emmerich himself has tweeted that Liam will be joining Usher as a co-lead in the film, and that internet sweetheart Jeff Goldblum will also be returning to his character from the first film.

Usher will be playing the son of Will Smith’s character from the original, but Will himself will not be in the film. As of now, no other details are known.
