Ever since Spider-Man’s come home to join the MCU, the discussion has been strong as to whether or not Peter Parker would be in it, or if he’d even be white.
Of course the obvious answer is Miles Morales, but even the idea of getting a non-white actor to play Peter is something oft-discussed, and something that could be a reality. According to an episode of Meet The Movie Press, The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider seems to have some insider info:
Listen, this is not set in stone guys, but I’m telling you right now, Spider-Man’s not going to be white. Spider-Man’s not going to be white. I’m 95% sure. Spider-Man’s going to be most likely black. But there’s a chance he could also be Latino. 95% sure, not white.
Miles took over from Peter in the Ultimate universe in 2011, and has since become a fan-favorite, being the only Ultimate hero still in print. But even if it isn’t Miles, casting a non-white actor in the role of Peter Parker would send strong ripples of a want for diversity in the MCU from Marvel – something that the studio has been criticized for with Black Panther and Captain Marvel being the only black and female fronted solo films slated for the studio so far.
