Wicked fans everywhere will be torn in two about this announcement that there is set to be a Wicked film being made, and it is set for release in 2016. Or so says producer Marc Platt.
According to an interview with filmdivider.com producer Marc Platt confirmed that there will be a Wicked film and it could be released as soon as 2016, maybe.
“The process of developing that movie has begun, we’re working on it, and whether it makes 2016 or not, I’m not so sure.”
Platt also confirmed that the script was being put together by Winnie Holzman – who wrote the novelization of the musical and that Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot) would be directing. Wicked fans will be on the edge of their stages waiting for this film after the unbelievable success of the stage production but may have to wait. Although a 2016 date has been given Pratt expressed that this would be a “loose goal” as they were not going full steam ahead until they are happy with the material and can creat a film that is “every bit as satisfying as what we have on the stage.”
