It seems that people are more interested in watching Minecraft videos on Youtube than parodies of hit shows or music videos from the latest stars according to an article, ‘Think Gaming Content is Niche? Think Again’, published on Think With Google.
Minecraft was the second most searched term on YouTube last year, trailing just behind the broad term ‘music’ but beating big names like singer Beyoncé, Eminem and even Disney’s Frozen! The author of the piece, Gautam Ramdurai believes we’ve seen a surge in trends for gamings because it has become so ”tightly woven” into pop culture. You only have to look at millions of people who follow gaming YouTube channels or the people who’ve made successful careers from ‘Lets Play’ videos – Pewdiepie earns a reported $4 million dollars a year from his channel.
So are we seeing a golden age of gaming or is this just another flash in the pan in online trends? We’ll have to see how 2015 fairs I guess!
