Fans have been waiting nearly a year and a half for any news since the original story broke that the fan favourite Vertigo Comics series “Fables” by Bill Willingham would be developed for the big screen as a feature filFables1m. Thanks to Comic Book Resources (via Empire) we have our first titbit and glimmer of hope that this film is still on the cards with the news that Jane Goldman (X-Men First Class, Kick-Ass and Stardust) is currently penning a draft along with director Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair) who is still at the helm of this project.
“Jane Goldman is working on a draft as we speak. Nik Arcel is attached [to direct].He did a draft, and now he’s supervising Jane, who’s doing a draft,” says producer David Heyman via Comic Book Resources. “Hoping that it’ll come in and we’ll be able to move to the next stage. All these things always take longer than you want. And ‘Fables’ is not easy, by any means, but I think it’ll be pretty great.”
For anyone out there who is not familiar with the “Fables” series should know the basis is that all the characters from all your favourite storybooks are real and living among us. From the Big Bad Wolf to Snow White, all living in a neighbourhood in New York City known as Fabletown, all hiding from the mysterious “Adversary”.
“I’m drawn to stories about outsiders,” Heyman explains his fondness for the property, “and I think the Fables are outsiders. They’re people torn from the place where they were raised, by The Adversary. They arrive in a New York City-type place, and how we’re approaching is that they’re people who are all separate, and how they ultimately have to form the community in order to survive.
Jane Goldman is also set to work with Tim Burton on “Peregrine’s Home for Peculiars” which is set to be released on the 4th of March 2016.
