clivepinheadAll great things must end, even the truly horrifying. Due in May, The Scarlet Goespels, Clive Barker’s first adult novel in 8 years, will see the death of horror icon Pinhead. Speaking through his agent, Clive stated, “Pinhead needed to say goodbye. He had a farewell speech to make. It was truly as simple as that.
Pinhead first made his debut in novella The Hellbound Heart in 1986, before reaching prominence in the film Hellraiser, a film still revered as a classic to this day. The Scarlet Gospels has been in the works for over 20 years, and will see another of Barker’s recurring characters, detective Harry D’Amour, go against Pinhead in a tale that the publisher, Macmillan, has touted as “bloody, terrifying, and brilliantly complex” before reassuring fans that “Barker’s horror will make your worst nightmares seem like bedtime stories.
Barker has also made it known that the book will be set in hell, with his editor adding, “With the Hellraiser franchise Clive created a vision of hell through his own eyes. Suddenly this weird and terrifying world had a new image, and it’s that fantastical setting that the fans are desperate to see again. There’s nothing conventional about Clive Barker’s world of nightmares, his style is distinctive and unique.
