The C.W. Double Feature, Part 1: Flash vs. Arrow
Highly anticipated, The CW’s two part crossover of Arrow and The Flash aired.
As part of a double feature, a review will be suspended until after the second show airs. Still, we can at least give a run down of the story… so…
>Spoilers Ahead<
While Barry/ Flash (played by Grant Gustin) is out and about doing good a ne’er do well metahuman (super villain to the uninitiated) robs a bank by curious means. Upon looking people in the eye he triggers a violent aggression. While bank staff and customers a knocking lumps out of each other he helps himself to the takings.
However, the cash is marked and ere long the culprit is tracked. However, the police attempt to capture him is thwarted with near fatal consequences. Fortunately, The Flash saves the cops with the help of Arrow (Stephen Amell) who appears seemingly from out of nowhere. Flash saves the fuzz; Ollie saves Barry.
Turns out the triumvirate from Starling City (Star City) are in town (Central City) on assignment following a lead regarding death by boomerang. Felicity (played by Emily Bett Rickards) and Barry have great comedy and chemistry as always. At Barry’s suggestion the two parties join forces, though Arrow is reluctant.
Even so, Oliver’s irritation pales to that of Dr Wells (Tom Cavanagh) and Detective West (Jesse L. Martin). Seeing him as a corrosive influence they want to see the Arrow out of Central City.
Despite the tensions, an alliance is born: Arrow will help Flash, but only after some training. Tension begets tension and resent results soon after. In a bid to throw-off his would be teacher, Barry takes on his infuriating foe solo and in the process falls foul of his gaze.
At first Barry seems OK, but at their next session he snaps and from there takes a downward turn. After word reaches Barry’s friends via West Wells realizes they will in fact need Arrow’s helps (oh the irony).
Just in time too. In a fit of rage, Barry, in full costume, tracks down the man dating his childhood crush, a guy who has been lobbying for his alter-ego’s arrest.
Experience and precision win the day and the Flash is set to rights.
