The sheer volume of planned movies coming out of Sony Pictures has sent quite a few heads into a spin. None more so than the now planned Mario Bros. movie. Coming from Buzzfeed, some emails have confirmed that discussions are in place with a very definite ‘Mario bros. animated film’ being discussed. Before we get crazy about casting we should be aware that this would be an animated feature and as it is very, very early days there are no names associated with this yet.
While some would say that this is little more than rumor the recent leaks from Sony have proven that, at the very least, this is being strongly considered by the big wigs. With Sonic looking like his full-time home will be on Nintendo’s hardware, this is the kind of full-circle irony the games industry has been going through, as the PS1 was born out of a deal between Nintendo and Sony. Looks like Sony are getting a different kind of Mario for themselves.
Guess we’ll just have to keep our moustaches and Mario costumes on standby for the moment and hope our Princess isn’t in another castle.
