I awoke on this dreary Monday Morn exactly one minute before my 6:30am alarm went off. I took that as a good sign, I was already one step ahead of this day so lets keep it that way. Nothing kicks a week off like a good set of tunes, and I hope that this playlist helps you kick-start your week with such ferocity that it doesn’t realise what has hit it until at least Thursday. I hope to have you rocking’ out on whatever plane, train or automobile you find yourself on this morning, so let’s get crackin’
MANGA VIDEO INTRO
This track used to play at the start of every MANGA VHS release. For me it’s both nostalgic and rocking. A perfect way to start this playlist
MOONEY SUZUKI – ALIVE AND AMPLIFIED
The first track should have started you off at a brisk pace, but this one will have you sprinting. The Mooney Suzuki are a garage rock band from America, and they know how to get a party started.
Apparently the trick to a good play list is to kick it off with two high tempo adrenaline fuelled tracks then drop it down to something chilled and relaxing. Well this next track is one of my all time favourite chilling out tunes. From the fantastic anime Macross Plus.
ARAI – VOICES
Sticking with the anime theme for the next tune. From my all time favourite anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. The intro to this series (Titled A Cruel Angel’s Thesis) lays out everything to do with the plot, yu just have to be quick to spot it all, and it doesn’t help that’s its accompanied one of the most infectious and fast paced intros ever to grace an anime series.
A CRUEL ANGELS THESIS – YOKO TAKAHASHI
Moving away from the anime I take you to one of my all time favourite bands, Therapy? Hailing from Larne in Northern Ireland these mad rockers have continued to release brilliant music for nearly three decades and this tune showcases just how kick ass they really are. If this doesn’t clean out the spider-webs then nothing will.
THERAPY? – LONELY, CRYIN’, ONLY.
Time to drop a creepy tune into the mix. The video for this used to freak me out slightly when I was younger. A nice moody tune, and brilliant video starring a young Tilda Swinton.
ORBITAL – THE BOX.
The end this Mondays Musical journey I will be going with an Irish band that are gone, but in my mind not forgotten. Cyclefly were from Cork, they released two studio albums during their short tenure in the world of music and toured all over Ireland and the UK. They were just about to hit it big when the band imploded. This track is off their first album Generation Sap and is a great tune to stomp around to.
CYCLEFLY – SUPERGOD
