Massive Hack takes down Sony Pictures’ Computer System
Sony Picture’s Computer system has had a massive breach in security that has reportedly forced the company to completely shut down all of its systems.
An alleged former employee of Sony Pictures posted on Reddit a picture of which he claims appeared on all of the Sony Picture’s computers screens on Monday. The image says that the system has been hacked by #GOP which stands for the hacker group Guardians of Peace.
The image contains a ransom style message claiming that they will release “secret” data if their needs are not met. “We already warned you, and this is just a beginning. We continue till our request be met. We’ve obtained all of your internal data including your secrets and top secrets. If you don’t obey us, we’ll release the data shown below to the world,” says the message.
The deadline is 6pm ET or 11pm GMT tonight.
Variety reports Sony Pictures has warned employees to not connect to corporate networks or access their email. Variety‘s source at Sony Pictures claims the company estimates the issue might take anywhere from one day to three weeks to be resolved.
This isn’t the first time that they have had an attack. Its PS Network was hacked in April 2011 and again in August 2014. Sony Pictures was attacked in June 2011 exposing private data of more than 37,000 users.
According to an article on The Next Web, A source within Sony has anonymously confirmed to TNW that the hack and image that have appeared on computers inside Sony Pictures is real. They said that “a single server was compromised and the attack was spread from there.”
