Disney fans hold onto your glass slippers – After the success of live-action adaptation of Sleeping Beauty – in “Maleficent” Disney have struck again by releasing the live action adaptation of classic fairy-tale Cinderella. The trailer debuted on Good Morning America.
Unlike Maleficent this adaptation is staying true to the original story – Thor director Kenneth Brannagh takes the reigns in this new version of a classic tale – the film features many familiar faces – Lily James (Downton Abbey) as Cinderella, Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) as Prince Charming, Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter series) and Cate Blanchette (Veronica Guerin) as the Wicked Stepmother – Lady Tremaine.
Disney are not the only ones who see profits in these classic tales – live action adaptations will be popping up all over the place in coming years with Sofia Coppola developing a retelling of The Little Mermaid for well over a year now and Frances own Christophe Gans directed a “Beauty and the Beast” adaptation this year.
Disney’s Cinderella is slated for release in March of 2015.
