There’s hardly a nineties kid out there who hasn’t at some point seen and been influenced by the dark fantasy that was Labyrinth, with it’s stellar imagery and plentiful use of the Bowie Bulge. We’d all but given up hope of a film of that style ever being released again, and had learned to live with The Dark Crystal, it’s spiritual successor.
That is until Bill Crystal dropped the bomb to Variety that not only is there a Labyrinth sequel in development, but also a Dark Crystal one, AND a new Fraggle Rock film.
“It [the Jim Henson company] is also working on a quartet of legacy titles in the Henson library — a Fraggle Rock movie that’s been in development at New Regency; a sequel to 1982’s The Dark Crystal; a sequel to 1986’s Labyrinth; and a movie based on the Emmet Otter character.”
I mean, with The Muppets still in full swing and now this, the Jim Henson company is working well to give us back our lost youth, eh?
No word yet on David Bowie’s involvement, but we’re sure he’ll be in touch any day now.
