For anyone not in the know about what a cat café is it is a café to which patrons can come in and have their cup of whatever while enjoying the company of the cats that roam freely around, the world’s very first cat café was opened in Taiwan way back in 1998.
After many years of the craze has swept through Asia it has begun to trickle its way over to us. Crazy Cats Café is the creation of Georgina O’Neill who first came across the idea when she saw a photo of a café from her brother’s holiday to Japan. She told DailyEdge.ie that after she launched the Facebook page for Crazy Cats Café she has been swamped with C.V’s and there has been a huge response to the page.
“It’s been surreal. I’ve had about 70 CVs come my way”
cat-cafe-melbourneGeorgina explained that how it will work is the cats will be sourced from cat charity which will be supported by the café in return, best of both worlds for both sides. She will begin looking for premise in December and is looking at the Lucan area to avoid high rents and lack of space, to accommodate the welfare of the cats.

She is also looking at the option of crowdfunding in order to get the project off the ground after a cat café was opened in Edinburgh after a successful crowdfunding campaign.
So when can we see the doors of this fine establishment opening?
“September next year, though it could be sooner. It depends on the crowdfunding element.”
