Bio-pic of Alan Turing is set for initial release in November 2014. According to The Independent’s Kaleem Aftab “Benedict Cumberbatch is odds-on to be nominated for an Oscar (at the very least) for his brilliant turn as Alan Turing”.
Having already won critical praise and Grolsch People’s Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival, expectations are high though Catherine Shoard of The Guardian is unmoved.
Still the prognosis is good. As a role, the man, posthumously hailed as the father of modern computing, not to mention Nazi code-breaker, must have been daunting.  That said, Cumberbatch is no stranger to smart-alecs in his working life historical and fictional alike, Stephen Hawking, Sherlock Holmes, Khan Noonien Singh.  Furthermore, with a supporting cast featuring Keira Knightley, as Turing sometime fiance Joan Clarke, along with Charles Dance and Mark Strong fears might be abated.  With all the hype the film’s arrival is eagerly anticipated but may be the its undoing; meantime The Imitation Game (2014) must be preceded the waiting game … or, if puns aren’t your thing, watch the trailer.
