A 14-year-old girl from Florida in the United States has been charged with arson and attempted murder of her mother and 9-year-old brother. Early Thursday morning the girl allegedly set her home alight according to police she saturated a bed sheet and a towel in rum and bleach lighting them on fire in the garage of her home, while her mother and brother slept and fled the scene. She then spent the night in a nearby park restroom stocked with clothes, water, cookies, lighters, knives and flashlights.

Firefighters searched the house multiple times for the girl but it was not until her mother apparently received a text from her that they managed to find her. The text read
“Mom, I’m so sorry. I don’t know why I did it”
It was reported that the 14-year-old had been reading the manga “Soul Eater” by Atsushi Ohkubo online. Soul Eater follows a death god in training Maka Albarn who must capture 99 evil souls of humans and 1 witch. Detective of Pasco County comments that she had most likely been influenced by a scene in the story where two characters are fighting with each other, due to the events unfolding after the girl had had an argument with her mother.
It was reported also that there had been evidence the girl had been fixated with the Slenderman character and has frequented the Creepypasta.com website. The 14-year-old will be with two counts of attempted murder and arson but will have to wait to find out if she will be charged as an adult or as a juvenile.
This event follows another Slenderman related incident in Wisconsin where two girls stabbed their classmate 19 times and were said to be influenced by the fictional character.
