While Marvel, 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. have films with a strong female presence in them on the horizon, it is in fact Sony that are apparently going to be the first to make a big budget female-led superhero film. Coming out of Deadline, insiders are saying that “(after a re-vamp of their most imporant property, Spider-Man) a female superhero movie  is being eyed for a 2017 release date.” This is in between the two upcoming Spider-Man films Sinisterer Six and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 with Garfield’s Spidey not headlining again until 2018, and the Sinister Six coming in 2016. This has since been bolstered by a report by The Hollywood Reporter that one Lisa Joy has been hired to pen the film from Sony!

Now, while are a few Spider-Man women to choose from, the most likely, to me, is Black Cat, since Filicia Hardy made a very brief appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It’s an easy link to the franchise and would make TASM 3 even more interesting as it has more established characters to work with. Only time will tell, however, and they have a couple of years to work out the kinks and make it happen. At this stage, with so many strong franchises and beloved characters and record-breaking cinema numbers for these films, the lack of a female-led superhero film is a little irksome. what do you think? Who would you like it to be? Let us know in the comments!
