The run-up to the release of Pokémon X and Y was marked mainly by the constant drip-feeding of new Pokémon and new Mega Evolutions for said Pokémon, and it was a very exciting time. Now, with the ever more imminent release of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, this trend has come back, and come back with a bang! Today marked the reveal in pages of this month’s CoroCoro of three new Mega Evolutions for the Hoenn remake (joining the already-revealed Sceptile, Swampert, Metagross, Sableye and Diancie).
Mega Lopunny, a rather surprising but welcome choice, gains the Normal/Fighting type on Mega Evolving, and has the Scrappy ability.
Mega Altaria, another welcome choice for a fan-favourite, becomes Dragon/Fairy and has the Pixilate ability.
Finally, Mega Salamence, one which people have been predicting for quite some time, retains its usual Dragon/Flying type but gains the Aerilate ability.
So, what do we make of that, then! Naturally we’ll have to wait and see how their stats turn out to judge fully, of course, but they look great and I imagine they’ll have quite the impact once they turn up. An additional interesting note can perhaps be taken from the reveal of Mega Lopunny, which, as a Gen IV ‘mon, bucks the trend of Hoenn Mega Evolutions revealed thus far. All in all, things bode well.
Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will be released in Europe on November 28.
