Joaquin Pheonix In 'Final Talks' For Doctor Strange
Age of Ultron hasn’t even landed yet and already Phase 3 is well and truly under-way. Ant-Man has started filming, we know a bit more about Captain America 3, and now it looks like Doctor Strange will be joining the fray with none other than Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role. Coming from Collider, sources are reporting that Pheonix is in the final stages of getting his contract to join Marvel’s movie-verse just in time for the Avengers trilogy to be complete and the biggest cinematic undertaking yet seen comes to fruition.
While it may seem odd it’s taken this long to finalize a deal, with Pheonix’s involvement having been touted for some time now, it also makes sense for an actor of his caliber to want a very particular sort of contract. Marvel make large demands on their actors, with each of the Avengers having signed on for multiple films over years, each complete with a grueling lifestyle and work setup. Joaquin has enjoyed a varied and successful career in films across the spectrum such as Her, The Master and Buffalo Soldiers, and I’d wager he’d like the freedom to do smaller projects when Marvel didn’t need him on set.
