All is not well in the Capcom or Koei Tecmo camps at the moment, it would seem, as Capcom has apparently filed a lawsuit against Koei Tecom for multiple cases of patent infringement, Polygon is reporting. These patents date back to 2002, with one said to be ‘a function that lets you acquire new content by combining an existing game with another piece of software.’ Capcom have targeted 50 KT titles that infringe upon this particular patent, including notable title Samurai Warriors: Xtreme Legends. The second patent is related to in-game controller vibration.
Capcom aren’t looking to remove all the titles, or for all profits to be allocated to them, however. Instead, they are merely looking for the 5-10% licensing fee that would be standard with such patents. A licensing fee that would not amount to $9.43 million, so still very much worth having. We await further developments.
