The Hollywood Reporter has listed X-Men: First Class writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are writing the new Power Rangers movie. The original TV series was launched by Saban and quickly became one of the most successful childrens TV shows ever spawning spin-off shows, sequels, films and an army of toys and collectibles.

Announced earlier in the year this new film will act as a reboot for the series, re-imagining our teenage heroes as a group of  high school kids who receive amazing superpowers but must harness and use those powers as a team if they have any hope of saving the world.

These aren’t the only familiar names attached to the project, Roberto Orci, a screenwriter for Transformers and Star Trek: Into Darkness has also been signed on as an executive producer. Now this isn’t the first Power Rangers film, many fans will remember that at the height of their popularity in the mid 90’s we got Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie and that was followed by Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie in 1997. Neither did particularly well with many fans panning the films entirely but with some strong names and talent attached to the project perhaps there is hope for this new project!
