Tekken 7 is announced

This week we finally got to see the latest installment in the long running fighting game series Tekken, with Tekken 7 being announced with a full reveal trailer. The trailer was originally discovered by Gematsu from IGN via AOL, so somehow it got leaked onto the site by accident. The reveal trailer shows no game play, release date or consoles, but we do know that the game will be heading to next-gen consoles and is being developed with a heavily modified version of Unreal Engine 3. As a big fighting game fan, I am glad to see Tekken still going, now all we need is Street Fighter V and I will be happy.
Volition expands by hiring 100 new staff members

Everyone’s favorite insane developer,Volition, has been through a lot in the last few years. Almost going bankrupt after the THQ liquidation was a big scare, but luckily they found a home with Deep Silver and were able to release SRIV in all its majesty unchanged. It looks like Volition is officially out of the clear now, as  the company has recently petitioned the city of Champaign, Illinois for financial incentives in order to expand their company. These funds will double their offices spaces and allows them to hire on 100 new staff members. The city will pay up to $150,000 in funding for the expansion of office space and $1,000 per employee hired. Its fantastic to see a developer like Volition come back from such extensive turmoil and continuing to provide the wacky and over the top fun that they are known for.

Freddy-Krueger-Mortal-Kombat-9
The Mortal Kombat series has featured a variety of wacky characters over the years, some from other franchises even making appearances. In a interview with Polygon, series c0-creator Ed Boon spoke out on the possibility of more guest fighters in Mortal Kombat X. Boon spoke about how the Freddy Krueger DLC sold well, along with Scorpion in Injustice. Boon stated “It’s working out for us, and I’d be surprised if we ignored those numbers.” What characters would you guys want featured in the new Mortal Kombat?

Uncharted
In a recent interview with Zap2it, director Seth Gordon shared his plans for the filming of the long awaited film adaptation of the popular Uncharted series. When asked when the shooting will being, Gordon stated,” …very early next year. That’s the plan.”
Gordon also spoke about the films lead star who will portray Nathan Drake, seeing how Mark Wahlberg dropped out of the project. “I want it to be a great actor. That’s number one, and then if it’s someone who has an actual jaw, that’s even better. The game is so well done that you need it to live up to that.”

Last week we saw the news that former Gears of War developer Cliff Bleszinski was setting up his own new team called Boss Key Productions. Along with this news of Cliff’s new company, we also got the name of his new shooter, Bluestreak. This week Cliff spoke out about the game, stating it was a free-to-play sci-fi PC arena shooter. The game will be published by a South Korean company named Nexon, who you might be familiar with by their work with things like MapleStory or Dragons Nest. While no real info or images have been shown of the game, its safe to assume that Cliff knows what hes doing with his past work being the Gears of War franchise.
The Long Dark comes to Early Access with a new trailer

One of my most anticipated indie games this year is The Long Dark, a story focused survival adventure. It looks like the project is heading to Early Access in September, but won’t include the the story until it is done. The game was successfully Kickstarted last year and has talented developers from Mass Effect and The Unfinished Swan working on it. While I am glad to see the title still alive and well, going to Early Access always sets off alarm bells in my head, so we will just have to wait and see if the game ever actually comes out.
The International Dota 2 Championships to be televised on ESPN

In a bizarre turn of events, Valve has announced that the International Dota 2 Championships will be televised on ESPN3 this year, with the final preview show even appearing on ESPN2. The championships will take place in Seattle, Washington and will go from the 18th to the 22nd, with the prize pool over $100 million this year. This is pretty huge news for eSports fans, as getting on a mainstream sports channel means Dota 2 is being recognized as a legitimate sport.
