Takashi Miike’s Audition Set For Remake

Takashi Miike’s Audition is a legendary film for quite a few reasons, and very little of them are safe to be printed. It’s a film that’s considered amongst the highest ranking of ridiculous, heinous films, and one that Hollywood simply would never go near. Well, turns out Hollywood are going near it, with a remake, or rather re-imagining of the ’97 Ryu Murakami novel that inspired the original. According to a report by Deadline, Terminator producer and Hollywood hot-shot Mario Kassar has assembled the project, with Richard Gray to direct, and Jason Momoa tapped for the lead role.

This is potentially decent news, I mean, Mario has made some great films in the past. But classically American remakes miss the point by a wide mark (Pulse) or end up being pointless as they add nothing to the original work (Oldboy). Only time will tell, but for now, let’s take this as bad news.
