"If SHE Be Worthy" – Marvel Announce New Thor
Marvel have come out with an incredible and bold announcement today; Thor will no longer be a male character! This isn’t like She-Hulk (who is still an amazing character), this new Thor isn’t a spin-off series, this will be a permanent change. No ‘Lady-Thor’, no ‘She-Thor’, just Thor.
“The inscription on Thor’s hammer reads ‘Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.’ Well it’s time to update that inscription,” says Marvel editor Wil Moss. “The new Thor continues Marvel’s proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn’t a temporary female substitute – she’s now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!”
The series will be written by Jason Aaron who wrote Thor: God of Thunder back in 2012, so he clearly already has a decent grasp of the character. What I’m so excited for is that Thor won’t be changed in any other way. Aspects of Thor’s personality won’t change to fit what people expect of a woman.
