In a post on the official website and Facebook page, Bioware have confirmed that an exclusively gay character called Dorian will be a possible party member in their upcoming title Dragon Age: Inquisition. Dorian isn’t the first gay character to feature in a Bioware game, Steve Cortez from Mass Effect 3 was an openly gay character and while the option to develop a homosexual relationship (male or female) has been available in the DA games, the characters have been bisexual – so this is a big step for the games.

“Dorian is gay — he is, in fact, the first fully gay character I’ve had the opportunity to write…I suppose this aspect of Dorian will make him controversial in some corners, but I was glad to include it. It made writing Dorian a very personal experience for me…and I’m hopeful that will make him seem like a fully realised character to fans in the end.” – David Gaider, series writer speaking about the decision and importance of including an openly gay character.
