The Ace Attorney series has been getting a little bit of a comeback the in the last few years, what with the cross over Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and the latest installment in the main series, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney-Dual Destinies, the series seems to be back, and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, well actually that’s technically not true.
From a report in Famitsu magazine this week, details were dropped on a new entry in the series, Dai Gyakuten Saiban: Ryuunosuke Naruhodou no Bouken. The odd thing about this title though, it will not be following Phoenix, but instead his ancient ancestor,Ryuunosuke Naruhodo. The game will change location from the modern day setting to the Japanese Meiji era(1868 to 1912).
While this is a massive change for the series, it turns out that Shu Takumi( series creator) will be returning as the game director after working on Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.
As a long time fan of the series, I have no real problem with these changes, as I feel like its good for a series as long running as this to take changes. While the character change isn’t actually all that new( I mean we have played as Apollo and Edgeworth in separate games) but we have never gone back in time before.
I trust the project will keep the same charm and flare that its so famous for even if the setting and cast changes, especially now that Shu Takumi is back as director.
