First released in the 1970’s, Brian McCarthy, game creator, unleashed ‘The Power Game‘ into the world and it went on to sell over four million copies worldwide. Developed with games like Chess in mind, two players went head to head in an attempt to subdue each other using tactics and strategy. The goal of the game was simple enough, protect your master cog while trying to turn your opponents, it’s execution was easy to pick up but it was a game that took serious thinking and logic. Players used a board with eight cogs each, using these cogs they take turns moving them around the board with the goal to move the other’s master cog but one wrong move and your opponent could start using your own pieces against you!
Well the game has made a return in a big way with a launch for Windows Phone back in September it’s now available for Android devices and while it may have gone digital it certain;y hasn’t lost anything in the process! In fact it’s gained a lot! The game allows you to share your device with another player to go head to head but you can also take on an AI for solo play or even go online and take your game to players all over the world. On top of that you can customise your board and cogs with optional micro-transactions.
Speaking about the move from board game to digital game, Brian MCarthy said “I am delighted to see The Power Game on Android, the largest mobile platform in the world. The game lends itself very well to both mobile and tablets, and I’m really happy that the game recreates, and improves, my original board game design.”
The Power Game is developed by Atom Split Games, a games development company based in Tipperary.
