Interview: NikkiNevermore
This week, I got the opportunity to chat to NikkiNevermore; model, cosplayer and performer! US based, Nikki made her name modelling for well-known alternative website, VampireFreaks! With a rake of cosplays under her belt, we chat to Nikki about her modelling, cosplaying and more!
Arcade: Hi Nikki! Thanks for taking the time to chat to us. What age were you when you started to model? Did you start professionally or gradually build up to it?
Nikki: I started to model at about 15 or 16. It was all done to build self esteem and whatnot, so I definitely didn’t start out professionally!! First, it was just me and my sister doing “photo shoots” in my backyard with my digital camera. That gradually lead to me doing real shoots with professional photographers.
Arcade: You cosplay a lot too, so does that go hand in hand with your modelling?
Nikki: I believe it goes hand in hand in a sense that I know how to pose and make the right expressions. Because with modeling, I get to pretend to be different characters! The same thing goes for cosplaying! But I’m not like an official “cosplay model” or anything like that. I just cosplay because it’s one of my favourite hobbies!
Arcade: Do you make your cosplays? If so, what’s the costume you’re most proud of?
Nikki: I make some, I buy others, and I edit ones that I’ve bought. To be honest, it’s been a while since I’ve made one completely so I’m not all that proud of the ones I have made in the past! It’s definitely time to work on something new but my priority has been making outfits for modelling shoots instead of cosplays.
Arcade: How did you get started modelling with VampireFreaks?
Nikki: One day about 3 years ago, VF introduced their idea of wanting models. I instantly deleted my old account that had bad memories attached to it, made one under my username “NiKKiNeVeRMORe”, and applied. I was chosen in the very first batch, and have since been to NYC multiple times to model for their official photographer, for their clothing store, and to gogo dance for their events.
Arcade: What’s your favourite movie and why?
Nikki: Disney’s Alice in Wonderland is my favourite movie EVER. I used to watch it multiple times per day when I was little. Then I lost my VHS of it and hadn’t seen it for years. When I finally saw it again, it flooded my brain with memories and quotes and just happy times from my childhood. I also adore anything with a fantasy aspect to it! So that explains why I love Alice so much!
Arcade: What’s your dream cosplay?
Nikki: My custom FoNewearl character from Phantasy Star Online! I’m not talented enough to make such a complex costume, so I’m having it commissioned for me as we speak! It’ll be done for next ConnectiCon and it’s a cosplay I’ve wanted to do since I first played the game when I was maybe 12 years old!
Arcade: Favourite superhero and why?
Nikki: Batman. He’s honestly the only superhero I even like. I used to watch the Batman cartoon and movies when I was little, so just like with Alice in Wonderland…Batman gives me happy memories of a better time! That, and he’s a superhero who doesn’t have superpowers. He uses his strength, brains, and technological know how. He’s pretty boss.
Arcade: What advice would you give to someone looking to get into modelling?
Nikki: Never give up! Always follow your dreams! Don’t let anyone ESPECIALLY yourself bring you down. It takes a lot of emotional strength to be a model because you’re always going to criticize yourself. You have to be able to remind yourself always that you ARE good enough and that you CAN make something of yourself and your dreams!
