Battlefield 4: Your Guide to Obliteration

As the Battlefield 4 Beta draws to a close, Dice dropped a bomb on us. Literally. With Obliteration, a new game mode making its debut in Battlefield 4.

While not exactly unique, Obliteration draws some resemblance  from (most notably) Call of Duty’s: Demolition mode while adding the series all out warfare spin on it. A bomb is dropped somewhere in the map, two teams compete to capture said bomb and plant it on one of three enemy sites whilst defending their own.

It may seem basic but there is A LOT going on here! While this can be said for EVERY Battlefield game mode, teamwork is vital for success! Obliteration is best described as a flash flood, the entire game can change in a matter of seconds! Your team could be dominating for the entire game, but if you get sloppy and begin to meander, the opposition could very easily launch a counter attack, wipe out your team and continue to bring the bomb to your front door.

Here are three key tips to your ultimate victory

Team Up

If you’re playing with friends, use it to your advantage! Players communicating with each other will always come out on top, no matter what. If some kills you, tell your friend where he is, your friend will kill him and you can spawn back in on your friend. Simple! It’s what friends are for! If the option to play with friends isn’t readily available, fight in a pack. Four is always better than one, even if you get shot, chances are there is a medic in that pack to cover your ass!

Utilize the Environment

Battlefield 4 allows players to have some interaction with the environment, for example there are two bridges between both teams, each with a switch that raises a road block. It takes a second to raise the barrier, but it makes it all the difference when your falling back to your area. Tanks, jeeps and armoured cars all have to stop once the barrier is up, giving you a precious few moments to lay traps or fire rockets. Besides, someone hiding inside those vehicles will have to get out to lower the barriers, chances are he won’t return.

Also, if you’re a real boss, you can lower the barricade, and promptly re-raise them once the vehicles make their way across, trapping them in the centre with no way out!

Expect the Worse

Plant traps at bases, raise barriers, keep your eyes open. Once you begin to assault the enemy district, anything can happen, except to be ambushed, shot and infiltrated! Make sure that when it does happen you are ready and prepared, don’t get caught out! Resupply squad mates, mark enemy’s and try and get some armour!
