James Cameron's Plans for the Future

When he isn’t breaking records and exploring the unknown depths of the planet, James Cameron makes movies too. In an interview recently he discussed his plans for the future and his upcoming projects. The biggest revelation was that he wants to make a fourth Avatar movie. It’s okay don’t worry you haven’t somehow missed the second or third movie, tt will still probably be 2015 before we see some more Pandora on the screen.

“I haven’t really put pen to paper on it, but basically it goes back to the early expeditions of Pandora, and kind of what went wrong with the humans and the Na’vi and what that was like to be an explorer and living in that world.” and he then adds “We’ll start, not imitating Star Wars, but it’s a logical thing to do because we’ll have completed the thematic arc by the end of three. The only thing left to do is go back to see what it was like on those first expeditions and create some new characters that then become legacy characters in later films. It’s a plan.”

The reason it’s taking so long he explains is that it’s a really complex process to make these movies, and they have been working to streamline this process making it easier for them in the long run. He also said that the his adaptation of the manga Battle Angel Alita is still in the works and he hopes to get back to it after Avatar. “I am sure you will get to see Battle Angel. It is one of my favourite stories, a great story about a young woman’s journey to self-discovery. It is a film that begs the question: What does it mean to be human?’ Are you human if you have a heart, a brain or a soul? I look forward to giving the audience the film.”

When will that be?

Who knows your guess is good as mine, it would have to be at least 2017-2018 given Avatar’s expected release schedule.
