Announced for development late last year, Sony Pictures Animation is going ahead with a CG Popeye movie, the real news is that Variety has reported that Genndy Tartakovsky will be heading up the development of this adaptation.
Everyone is probably familiar with Spinach munching Popeye since he appeared back in the 1930’s and has existed in one incarnation or another since then, from comic strips, to cartoons and even played by Robin Williams in a live action movie once in the 80’s.
Genndy Tartakovsky is one of those visionary creators that pretty much everything he touches turns to gold. Creator of Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack and the cut short Symbionic Titan.
Generally renowned for a more 2D style what a CG Popeye will look like is open to interpretation but will probably be very entertaining.
