Ok so we have no idea how the hell we’re going to get through the mountain of games from 2011 because we’ve already begun drooling over the upcoming releases for 2012. We’re taking a look at just ten of our favourites…but not in any sort of top ten countdown because going by these forthcoming titles…it wouldn’t be easy to rank them in any order!

Here is part I of our two part feature…

Metal Gear Rising

Release date: TBC
Platform: PS3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows

Originally poised to fill the gaps between the events of Sons of Liberty and Guns of Patriots, the game is now set several years after the events of Guns of Patriots and is now considered a spinoff from the franchise rather than ‘part of the Metal Gear Solid series’.
We’re really only looking forward to MGR for it’s complete 180 turn on the traditional style of Metal Gear gameplay, controlling Raiden, the game is based purely in action and the ability to master the  cyborg ninjas skills with his deadly katana.

One particular thing to note is the ability to clear the game without actually harming the NPC trash that litter the levels (much like Metal Gear games) however the option to slice open the human soldier is available but director for the game Mineshi Kimura has pointed out that while you are free to kill the robots and encouraged to do so, actually harming another human character in the game will earn you no rewards…except the joy of hacking and slashing just for the giggles of bloodlust.

The Last of Us

Release date: 4th Quarter 2012
Platform:
PS3

A Third-person survival horror with an action-adventure twist all coupled with a moody anti-hero and a somewhat pathetic pre-teen sidekick…been there done that! Based in a post-apocalyptic world the game features several key US cities which you will travel through both killing and scavenging to survive.
The inspiration for the game came about with thanks to the BBC documentary Planet Earth, the human race has fallen victim to cordyceps fungus and society as we know it has crumbled! According to develops the game will however focus more on the aspects of developing a relationship between the two survivors rather than the monsters…interesting…

Final Fantasy XIII-2

Release date: February 3rd
Platform:
PS3, Xbox 360

We’ll let the trailer for this one speak for itself…

Tomb Raider

Release date: 3rd Quarter 2012
Platform:
PS3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows

If we had to pick a favourite in our list, Tomb Raider would be up there as a serious contender! With the series being completely overhauled by Square Enix, we’re all a flutter at the prospect of once more throwing Lara headfirst into the action of relic hunting once more. After the disappointment from her last few adventures and a certain Nathan Drake attempting to muscle in on her territory, it would take a lot for us to trust the Tomb Raider once more!

Thankfully however with the overhaul of her backstory and a new mechanics system, it looks like Miss Croft is set to once more ransack our hearts and we’re more than happy to let her!

Mass Effect 3

Release date: March 9th
Platform:
 PS3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows

We were threatened to put this game into our list and truthfully we’ve never been a big fan of the Mass Effect series…yes we appreciate the graphics, freedom to explore and develop but dammit people this game is just too big and it’s about space and it’s clearly way too smart for us!

For those of you who appreciate the series more than we do…then delight, drool and dream about the trailer below…
