By now, you may have heard about the Terry Goodkind controversy, or at the very least, you’ve heard his name and “asshole” in the same sentence.

Here’s why:

Terry Goodkind recently posted a picture of the cover of his book Shroud of Eternity on his social media. Sounds pretty harmless, right? You’d think! Along with the picture, he posted a caption that many people found… unprofessional.

Goodkind‘s caption read: “SHROUD OF ETERNITY is a great book with a very bad cover. Laughably bad. So let’s have some fun with it.” He then told fans to comment what they think of the cover, so that ten winning entries could be chosen to receive a free copy of the book. In doing so, he encouraged people to mock the cover.

Needless to say, there was some criticism, from both the general book/art community:

Established authors:

And, of course, the artist of the cover himself. An extremely talented creator (just look at his body of work), Bastien Lecouffe-Deharme, also weighed in on the situation:

If that wasn’t bad enough, Goodkind then proceeded to throw his publisher under the bus and claimed that it was actually their fault because the artist created the cover based on their brief. Eek.

Goodwind has since apologised to Deharme.

What do you think of the author’s behaviour? Let us know in the comments!
