Hell Hath No Fury

Mike Mignola, the man who gave us Hellboy, is about to bring three new comic titles to the world. After delivering comic titles P.B.R.D. and Lobster Johnson, the ‘Mignolaverse’ will be expanding slightly. Two of the three titles will start off as five part mini-series. The other title is a one shot that will actually see Hellboy face off against a satanic Santa.

The first title is called Rasputin: Voice of the Dragon. This title is all about going back to the beginning for Hellboy and the lore. The focus of the title will of course be Rasputin and go back to when he was just an infant. Mike Mignola will write with Chris Roberson, while the art will be done by Christopher Mitten with cover art by Dave StewartRasputin: Voice of the Dragon will go on sale in November. Here is a synopsis for this title:

A conspiracy involving the Third Reich and a dead member of a sinister secret society sets Professor Bruttenholm on his first mission—to find the man who’d soon bring Hellboy to earth. The mad Russian sorcerer Rasputin had been thought dead since 1916, when a group of noblemen sought to end his influence over the tsar. Now Rasputin works with the most twisted members of Hitler’s inner circle, and he’s about to cross paths with the man who’ll go on to found the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense.

The second title will be the one-shot comic Hellboy: KrampusnachtMike will also be writing this comic with art, colouring and cover art by Adam Hughes. Releasing on December 20th of this year, the theme is very seasonal. Hellboy will go up against a very evil version of Santa. Judging from the title, one might guess it to be the recently popular Krampus. The small synopsis provides little in the way of clearing up whether it is Krampus or just an evil Santa.

The only thing more exciting than pitting Hellboy against this Satanic spin on Santa is the team-up of Mike Mignola and Adam Hughes.

The third title coming to the ‘Mignolaverse’ will not be released until January of 2018. This will also be a five part mini-series, much like the first title. The third comic is called Koshchei the Deathless and will once more be written by Mike Mignola. This time art will be done by Ben Stenbeck with colouring by Dave Stewart. The mini-series will explore the terrible deeds Koshchei had to commit in order to acquire his unnatural fortitude and immortality. Check out the synopsis for this comic.

Sent to kill Hellboy by the Baba Yaga in Darkness Calls, Koshchei the Deathless hinted at a long and tragic life before being enslaved to the Russian witch. Now Koshchei relives every horrible act on his road to immortality and beyond, with none other than Hellboy himself—in Hell. Mignola returns to Hell and to the bizarre folklore that’s filled some of his greatest books, reuniting with one of his favorite collaborators, Ben Stenbeck (Frankenstein Underground, Witchfinder: In The Service of Angels, Baltimore).
