‘Better’- Regina Spektor – Track of the Day

Christmas-time with all it’s stress, crowd squashing and repetitive music is almost upon us. I’m no scrooge and I enjoy the season as much as anybody. Yet sometimes you just need to take a music break from it all that doesn’t involve Mariah Carey, Santa or feeding the world. There’s lots of relaxing music out there. There’s even a ‘genre’ called ‘easy listening’. When I need to chill I listen to artists like Regina Spektor.

This weekend might well be the last this can be done for the more last-minuters, with only 3 weeks to the big day. I could have gone for a easy listing track. There’s even one that sprung to mind with the day in the lyrics, ‘Easy (like a Sunday morning)‘. But I like to enfuse this featured piece with something a bit less easy and a bit more quirky.

Regina Spektor is more mainstream than some fans may like to boast but her lyrics remain in the realm of weird. I like having her dulcet tones take me to a relaxed place. She has featured on the Track of the Day before, when she performed on the soundtrack to Kubo and the Two Strings. That particular track can be listened to here while the film will be released in January.

There’s a particular lyric in ‘EET’ that strikes a chord with the stressed -“You’re using your headphones to drown out your mind”- but that song is a bit depressing. So I chose ‘Better’.  Have a listen below and feel better.
