Hey guys, and welcome back to another Comicphiles. Today we’ve got a mixed bag for you, from the kinda but not really DC reboot, to the dark and gritty, with a little Civil War sequel to top it all off. I’m here to let you know whats worth grabbing, and what to avoid.

Civil War II #0

Civil War II

Marvel decided to share a teaser of their next big event for this years free comic book day. A brand new civil war looms, brought upon by the emergence of an inhuman who has the power to see the future. But should his powers be used as a means of arresting potential threats before they emerge? That is the big dilemma that is once again set to pit friend against friend when Civil War II kicks off.

This opening teaser lays some of the ground work, and really goes to show how even being able to prepare for a looming future catastrophe, doesn’t mean you can completely stop it from happening.

It’s also great to see the Ultimates and A-Force team up here, bringing a lot of girl-power to the forefront of this particular arc.

In a side story of this issue, we are also introduced to a brand new Wasp.

Oh, and THIS IS A FREE COMIC.

Will I Keep Reading? I read Marvel comics, so I think it would be a difficult event to avoid.

Nighthawk #1

Nighthawk

Nighthawk definitely takes a darker path through the marvel comicverse. Revolving around the story of Raymond Kane, a vigilante and the sole survivor of his universe. An integral member of the Squadron Supreme, this comic features Kane’s journey, outside the team.

I wasn’t entirely sold on this comic after my first reading of it, but on a second read through, I can see that it does lay some good foundations for a character who can potentially bring us on a darker emotional journey. A journey unlike any we have already seen in the All-New, All-Different Marvel series’ to date.

Kane is an intelligent man, and this issue does show that he is a step ahead of the police as he takes the law into his own hands. Having no hesitation about killing his enemies as he tries to clean up the streets of Chicago.

Will I Keep Reading? I can appreciate that it has potential. It’s just not for me.

DC Universe Rebirth #1

As far as comics go, I have tended to read a lot more Marvel than DC. But, I have to say, DC Universe: Rebirth #1 honestly has me hooked. In this one issue alone, we got some exciting panels, with equally fantastic artwork, as the fan-favourite Flash Wally West fights against the Speed Force, which is threatening to rip him apart.

Wally’s struggles allow us to peek into the lives of some other DC characters as we get a tease of what is to come in this exciting venture for DC comics. Whether they will go as far as to undo everything established within the New 52 remains to be seen. But DC have done more than enough to show they mean business with this first issue, judging by the general reactions.

If you’re looking to get into DC comics like me, this may be a good starting point for you to jump on board.

Will I Keep Reading? I’m already eagerly anticipating these new DC #1s! I am sold!
