Hayao Miyazaki is an iconoclast of film and has a legendary work ethic – he can’t stick retirement it seems! The famed director is currently working on his first film with computer generated animation, whether this marks the closure of the iconic style we associate with his films or not, you’d be wrong not to at least consider collecting the complete works of Miyazaki on Blu-ray.

Having all eleven of the director’s incredible films is already a sweet deal, but the beautiful collectors box and bonus features are what really have us opening our wallets up early for this. As well as including classics like Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle and My Neighbour Totoro, this limited edition release will have:

  • Yuki no Taiyo – or Yuki’s Sun- a TV pilot from 1972 based on Tetsuya Chiba‘s manga which is storyboarded, animated and directed by Miyazaki
  • The uncut footage of Miyazaki‘s retirement press conference, thankfully not the final scene in his career
  • Episodes 26, 27 and 41 of the anime Akado Suzunosuk along with storyboards by Miyazaki
  • And certainly the most tantalising of them all – a book including Miyazaki‘s initial notes on production and proposals for each of his films, along with The Great Dichotomy: Looking At The Works Of Hayao Miyazaki by Tomohiro Machiyama which delves into the themes and techniques found in the director’s incredible eleven works

The collection is set to be released on November 17 and is exclusive to Amazon. However, no price has been set yet.
