Marvel have been teasing this series for quite a while now but today they’ve finally revealed the creative team for the Star Wars: Journey to The Force Awakens – Shattered Empire miniseries.

Writer Greg Rucka and artist Marco Checchetto, whose 2011 Punisher series was the stuff of legend, are getting back together for the four-issue series that promises to bridge the gap between Episode VI and the upcoming Episode VII, The Force Awakens.

Series editor Jordan D. White said this at Marvel’s announcement: “The world has been wondering what happened after the fall of the Empire since the credits first rolled on ‘Return of the Jedi’ in 1983. Now, on the dawn of the next chapter of the saga, we’re incredibly proud to be involved in revealing the events that happen immediately following the end of ‘Return of the Jedi’!

The Marvel press release makes it abundantly clear that, as this series is developed in partnership with Lucasfilm and both parties are owned by Disney – it’s definitely, 100% part of the official Star Wars canon.
