In a Zelda development update, Nintendo have announced that the latest Legend of Zelda, for the Wii U, will not be coming out this year. In the video, Legend of Zelda director Eiji Aonuma cites “several new possibilities” for the game as the reason why releasing this year is no longer their top priority.

Since I declared at The Game Awards in December that the game would launch in 2015, the directors and the many members of the development team have been working hard developing the game to make it the best it can be,” Aonuma states, explaining the choice. “So, I must apologize to you all that were expecting the game by year’s end, but we are no longer making a 2015 release our number one priority. Instead, our priority is to make it the most complete and ultimate Zelda game.
In addition, Nintendo have since confirmed that the in-progress Legend of Zelda will be part of their E3 line-up.
Though a disappointment, it’s more important the game is finished and is a complete product than releasing within a limited window. However, now down their biggest release of the year, the spotlight now looks in search of what they will use to fill the Winter gap in their schedule. The new Star Fox perhaps? Or a return of any number of their other ip that remains untapped? What would you like to see? Let us know in the comments?
