J.K. Rowling Sends Grieving Teen Personalized Letter From Dumbledore
Books and their many inspiring, poignant quotations have gotten us all out of all our darkest moments at some point or another, whether you want to admit it or not. Young Cassidy Stay, 15 and from Texas, used the rather beautiful ‘Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light’ from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban at the memorial service of her family as a way of showing both how she was coping, and what was helping her to cope. In he wake of this tragedy, none other than J.K. Rowling caught wind of it, and decided to give the girl the kind of help only she can administer; she sent her a personalized Harry Potter care package.
Complete with a wand, a Hogwarts acceptance letter, and a signed book (the third one, fitting the quote), the package made its way to the grieving teenager, though by the use of airplane and not owl, but perhaps most beautiful of all was it also containing a letter written in Dumbledore’s character from Rowling. Coming from Bustle, a member of a Facebook page that wanted to arrange the meeting of the two stated that “This afternoon, I talked to a friend of Cassidy’s who confirmed that J.K. Rowling did, in fact, write her a personalized letter from ‘Dumbledore’ (hand-written with purple ink), I’m so excited and ecstatic that we were all able to make a difference! How wonderful.”
An actual meeting between the two has not been confirmed, but given the circumstances, any contact between Rowling and Stay is most likely, and quite rightly, being kept completely private. One can only imagine the love and wisdom the letter exuded and the light that it represents for Stay. She is very clearly surrounded by people who love her at a time she needs it most, and JK continues to be an inspiration to us all.
