So what has our lovable office manager David Brent be up to in the last couple of years?
We won’t have to worry much longer about what became of him soon as Ricky Gervais announced that he will be bringing him back to the big screen courtesy of BBC Films.
Ricky Gervais starred as David Brent in the original Office series, which aired in the UK from 2001-2003 and was later adapted for the NBC series starring Steve Carell.
The film will be titled Life on the Road and it’s expected to begin filming in 2015.
The film will follow David as he goes on a self funded UK Tour fifteen years after his dismissal in a sort of “where are they now” documentary in a style similar to the Office series. It will follow David’s efforts to fund his tour as the sales are just not coming in.
In the present day David is a sales rep selling cleaning products up and down the country. But he has never given up on his dream of being a rock star.
The story coincides with the video of the character last year when Ricky Gervais brought Brent back for a ten minute video which showed him selling his products alongside a young musician who was somehow convinced that Brent could help him get his name out there. A further video was then released with some David Brent Video Guitar Lessons for those in search of musical wisdom from a salesman. David Brent has also made an appearance in the US Office for a run in with Michael Scott. This film in that case will not be the first we have seen David Brent since the Office ended but it will most certainly be the biggest comeback for the character to date.
Gervais has stated that this is not and there will not be an Office movie.
