The Arcade's Most Romantic Couples

All week here at The Arcade we’ve been preparing for Valentines Day by telling you about or favourite fictional couples and what makes them so perfectly matched.
We’ve touched on TV, comic books, novels, anime and film and believe me, it took a long time to narrow the list down. We’re a bunch of old sappy romantics at heart.

In case you missed them, here they are collected so you can read about fictional people who are better off in the love department than you or I will ever be.
What? Come on, you needed a reason to inhale that tub of Hagen Dazs anyway.

Dwight & Angela – The U.S Office

Their incredibly sweet, albeit somewhat formal, forms of intimacy compliment each other perfectly, and in the end isn’t that all we want in a relationship? Someone who makes our good parts look amazing and our bad habits something to endear?

Balthamos & Baruch – His Dark Materials

“I learned that love is not easy. Love is one of the greatest and most terrifying feelings in the world. I learned that it means sharing your life with the person you love and sacrificing everything to keep that love safe. I learned that lesson from Balthamos and Baruch, two lower angels who appeared in The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass books in the trilogy.”

Riggs & Murtaugh – Lethal Weapon

“But not only do Riggs & Murtaugh exemplify a true bromance in the Lethal Weapon series, they do a pretty good number on regular romance too. Looking at it a certain way, the four action-packed blockbusters that tell the two maverick cops’ stories’ hit all the beats of a real-life, long-term relationship.”

Peter Parker & Mary-Jane Watson – Spider Man

“The reality of it is, there is much more depth and substance to Mary Jane and Peter than most people know or give them credit for. Unlike other fantasy couples where everything works, Pete & Mj have always been written to have real world problems like money, careers and marital situations. It’s a truly honest portrayal of their relationship.”

Rikka & Yuuta – Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!

“Unfortunately the universe has other plans and Yuuta and Rikka do gradually grow closer and closer together along with a whole cast of equally unlikely friends. As delightful as the characters are though, it’s the romance between Rikka and Yuuta that really steals the show.”

There you have it folks! Our contenders for Most Romantic (fictional) Couple!
