Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act – Stop CISPA!

Submitted by on April 25, 2012 – 12:01One Comment

Well we’ve faced down SOPA and ACTA but it would seem governments aren’t ready to give up just yet! Not while they are pushing a new act into place! May we introduce you to CISPA or the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act!

A petition has surfaced online in an attempt to gather signatures and highlight that the ever growing community of the online world do not want this passed. Started by Access, a ‘global movement premised on the belief that political participation and the realization of human rights in the 21st century is increasingly dependent on access to the internet and other forms of technology

The bill proposed by the US government would make an amendment to the ‘National Security Act of 1947′ which did not account for ‘cyber crimes’ add protections and defining cyber as a “vulnerability of, or threat to, a system or network of a government or private entity, including information pertaining to the protection of a system or network from either ‘efforts to degrade, disrupt, or destroy such system or network’; or ‘theft or misappropriation of private or government information, intellectual property, or personally identifiable information.’”

CISPA has met with opposition all over the world but it has also been supported by companies like Intel, IBM, Facebook and Verizon!

The petition started by Access has over 37,000 signatures but they are aiming for 40,000! To sign the petition just click here – Protect Our Privacy!
