The sound of guitar and drums surrounds Westland recording studio, along with a curious smog of hairspray.  This is where we found glam rock band Eazy Tyger recording their first album Earn Your Stripes which is to be releases in May.

So how did you guys form the band?

Nicolo Woolf: Me and Jetz were in a band together and that started going south so I started a band with Randy Beatz.  A.D Jetz started a band with Tommy Rockit. There were three or four bands going at once, we’re a super group basically.

A.d. Jetz: I joined a band called Thrust at the time *thrusts pelvis*.

Nicolo Woolf: They needed a drummer so they picked up Randy Beatz and I just started showing up to rehearsals and playing guitar, nobody asked me into the band. I showed up until they let me into the band.

A.d. Jetz: We parted ways with out bass player. He said “good luck replacing me” and within 45 minutes we had a new Bass Player.

Tommy Rockit:  I had jammed with Krissi Wyld and I saw how much he was into his rock and roll. He’s into all the bands that I’m into.  So when the bassist left the studio we rang Wyld up and said “Fancy playing bass with us?” 40-45 minutes later he came strolling down Richmond road with no guitar, no bass, and no nothing. He learned our whole set in a week.

Have you put your on twist on glam rock?

Nicolo Woolf: At the moment as far as we can see, we’re the only people in Dublin doing what we are, playing originals.

Tommy Rockit: We have our own hair and stuff.

Randy Beatz: It’s all our own hair, home grown.

Nicolo Woolf: We have our own spin on it but I think that more to do with the fact that none of us can play.

Krissi Wyld: once in  a review it said that we had more style than substance and the other band that came on had more substance than style.

A.d. Jetz: The whole glam thing is just the image, the music is hard rock.

What made you guys choose glam as your genre of music?

Nicolo Woolf: It picked us!  It’s just music that we’re all into and we want to do it justice.

Tommy Rockit: We didn’t really decide that we would do a glam band. You can only really play what you love playing and that why we play it.

Nicolo Woolf: I like to play gigs with a 80s vibe, people come along cause they want to have a party time not because they’re angry with their parents.  They come along cause they want to have a good time, they want to watch a bunch of guys have a good time… but not in a gay porn way!

A.d. Jetz: In a normal porn way!

How did you guys come up with the name for the band?

A.d.Jetz: Me and Tommy Rockit came up with the name of the band.

Tommy Rockit: We were driving through Tallaght and I don’t remember who said what but there was a hot chick walking down Greenhills road so the windows went down and we just went up and I’m pretty sure she shouted “Easy tiger”.

A.d. Jetz: Well somebody said something!

Tommy Rockit: Shut up!

A.d Jetz: One of us said “Easy tiger” and someone else said “Wouldn’t that be a great name for a band?”.  We got fed up of calling ourselves Thrust because we got fed up of going like that *thrusts pelvis* and everyone thought we were called Trust. *Thrusts hips repeatedly*

What lead to the creation of your stage names?

A.d. Jetz: *points to Randy Beatz* I came up with your name.

Randy Beatz: I came up with my own name!

Nicolo Woolf: Wait a minute I came up with Randy Beatz!

Randy Beatz: I came up with it!

A.d. Jetz: You were like “What will I call myself?” and I was like “Eh Randy Beatz?”

Nicolo Woolf: That exact story happened except with me!

*This continues for another 5 minutes.*

Krissi Wyld: My middle name is Chris and then Wyld as in wild like a tiger but spelt with a ‘y’ instead.

Nicolo Woolf: My name is Nicolo and I had a dog named Woolf and I thought that was cool so I stole my dogs’ name.

Tommy Rockit: There’s a Bon Jovi song called Let it rock and the drummer from Poison is called Mikey Rockit Def Leopord have a song called Rock it.  So I just changed it around from Rocket to Rockit.

What’s your hair and makeup routine before a gig?

A.d. Jetz: It starts two days before hand.

Nicolo Woolf: We start warming up the straighteners two days before the gig.

Tommy Rockit: Foundation, eyeliner, hairspray, lip-gloss, lipstick, concealer, eyeshadow, bandanas.

Nicolo Woolfe: The only thing I have on stage is hairspray and a lot of it.

A.d. Jetz: Its cool, it’s very manly. We wear it for a purpose because our faces get really red on stage.

Tell us about recording your upcoming album.

A.d. Jetz: We had ten songs that were worth laying down, like recording.  We recorded an EP that we’re ashamed of and we don’t like showing people anymore. When we first recorded it we we’re like “Yeah this is what we sound like!”

Tommy Rockit: Ashamed is a bad word, it’s just the transition of a band going from one stage to another. We were happy with it at the time.

Nicolo Woolf: When we got it done it was more designed as a pick  up line “Hey check out my EP” but we weren’t getting good enough looking chicks so we decided to make a better album to hopefully get a more higher class of woman.

Tommy Rockit: We should release a double album.

If you were trapped in an arcade for eternity what game would you play to pass the time?

Nicolo Woolf: Oh the turtles arcade game from the 80s.

Randy Beatz: The Punisher.

Krissi Wyld: Streets of rage.

A.d. Jetz: House of dead.

Randy Beatz: We were looking at making a basic Streets of Rage game with us as characters but with a special move.

Tommy Rockit: I’d play cards.

Nicolo Woolf: I’d play with myself.

A.d. Jetz: For eternity!

Eazy Tyger are also playing the last Friday of every month downstairs in Fibber Magees.  We watched the gig after interviewing the band and it is defiantly a show to go see (and we got a one of Randy’s drumsticks!!)
